About Sheards Ltd
The Company Today - why not phone us on 0870 2409220 and get up to date.
We are now distributors and stockists of spare parts for 18 European and 3 American companies
whose machinery is installed within the U.K. and Eire. Our comprehensive service includes the original specification
of the machinery together with our customers. This is supported by the availability of spare parts and technical
after sales service which is probably the most important function of a reputable textile machinery distributor.
We aim to constantly improve our service in line with the growing demands of our customers.
Our overseas principals are manufacturers of machinery that is used in the production and processing
of fibre and yarn. We represent both the largest and the smallest machinery manufacturer in the world, whose equipment
is the market leader in their particular field.
The company today is managed by Mr. Charles Clayton the son of Mr. John
Clayton who created and developed John Sheard Ltd into one of the leading textile machinery agencies operating in
the U.K. and Ireland.
Our History
In the late 1950's C & J Clayton Ltd, wooden bobbin manufacturers since 1745, wished to buy equipment
at auction without disclosing the ultimate destination of the equipment. Therefore the directors, John Clayton and T.
Sheard Hinchliffe created John Sheard Ltd using their christian names to give their 'thinking' competitors a hint of
the true purchasers.
At this time it was recognised that textile machine developments were responsible for diminishing the
range and number of wooden bobbins required within the industry so John Sheard Ltd developed a co-operation with
Volkmann GmbH in order to begin the formation of a textile machinery agency.
